In my first year of college life, this English course by Ms. Miller and Ms.Nagales has made me have a new understanding of the subject of English and even the language. As a second language learner of English. It is a great honor for me to study under the same roof with many native speakers. Although my English is not satisfactory, I have made a qualitative breakthrough with the help of my classmates and teachers. Instructor ‘s education mode is very special they this subject can be divided into four stages, respectively is the language and narrtive, expolartory essay, reasearch essay, and the reflection essay. It is through these four phases are also I get some literature appreciation and writing ability.
When I first entered college, I thought that college life was very comfortable and would not be as tired as grade 11, but it turned out that I was wrong. First of all, I would like to talk about my personal feelings about this course. I am a poor student of liberal arts. I hate reading long articles and writing my own thoughts and feelings with pen and paper since I was a child. If it were not for the reason that this course is a required course, I would never choose this course voluntarily in my life. The ancients said, take things as they come. So I can only brave to learn down, in the first stage of the teacher sent us a reading packet, every job is on the analysis of the article at first, I was always very resistance because of the language I’m not accurate understanding of the content of the author wants to convey that I once wanted to give up but with the teacher’s patience in class and after class discussion between students and the guidance of my resistance of literature appreciation does not seem to be so strong. After all, compared with the composition after all, this is a minor matter. Through the study of phase 1, I learned how to quickly read an article. For example, I should first understand the author, know the author’s writing background and who benefits from the author, analyze the arguments argued by the author through the context of the article, and then find some keywords. Break down the article thoroughly. Through phase 2 and phase 3, I understand that there is a world of difference between the composition in college and that in high school. The composition in college is more about summarizing by oneself rather than finding evidence from materials like the argumentative thesis in high school. In this short three months I learned a lot of things, but also achieved a lot of breakthroughs. For example, I can write free write as I like, I can read an article quickly, and most importantly, I have learned that teamwork is much better than working alone. I vaguely remember that on the first day of school, our teacher asked us to write a free write, but I never wrote too much about how to write free write on Google. However, now free write is a piece of cake for me. Of course, there were many regrets in the three months, because the language problem made me unwilling to communicate with more people. Although I am a person who likes chatting very much, I did not make many friends in the class due to the language limit, which was my biggest regret in the three months.
In the future, I will remember what I have learned in this course and make full use of it. I also hope that my procrastination in the future can be cured. I also hope that I can adapt to the American learning environment and get along with my classmates as soon as possible.
